This summer course will provide students and professionals interested in urban planning with an interdisciplinary and experiential perspective on the planning and construction of more inclusive cities.
Inclusion in urban planning ensures that communities, regardless of their socioeconomic status, race, gender, ethnicity, age, or ability, have equitable access to resources, services, and opportunities within the city.
Set in Bogotá, participants will tackle real-world problems by studying the implementation of innovative policies regarding housing, care infrastructure, accessibility and sustainable mobility, and urban governance conflicts. We start from the premise that inclusion and equity in urban planning can only be fostered if they are integrated with challenges related to care systems, affordable housing, sustainable mobility, diverse and thriving economies, and alternative democracy.
Although Bogotá will serve as the main venue for our course, our exploration will be complemented by comparisons of similar urban challenges and political experiments in Amsterdam. This summer course offers a unique opportunity to explore the complexities of inclusion, urban planning, and development from a global and comparative perspective, featuring a team of faculty and students from the Netherlands and Colombia. Through collaborative learning and intercultural exchange among participants, we will embark on a transformative learning journey toward planning more inclusive cities.
Important: If you are a currently enrolled student in an undergraduate or graduate program at the Universidad de los Andes, you cannot register for courses for academic credit through Continuing Education. You must register directly with the respective school offering the course you are interested in.
