Contenido

This course aims to provide students with an overview of issues relating to the relationship between developments in digital technologies and transformations in law and governance. The course’s approach is interdisciplinary and global. It will introduce students to theoretical frameworks for examining the mutually interactive relationship between technology, law, and social order, where technology is both an object and source of governance. The course will cover contemporary and pressing issues, such as surveillance, platform, and informational capitalism, challenges to antitrust and competition law, digital infrastructures, blockchain, smart contracts, cryptocurrencies, data governance, algorithmic labor, and digitally mediated law and governance. The course will also consider some possible institutional, technological, and policy alternatives that have been proposed in response to some of the problems outlined in the course.
